The Reporting Rules on Metal Are Narrower Than Almost Everybody Thinks
A dealer files a form on a cash payment over $10,000 and on 25 Krugerrands. American Eagles are exempt at any quantity, and none of it changes what you owe.͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏

The Quiet Wealth Playbook
If you passed down your assets tomorrow…

Most of them would notify the system automatically.

Bank transfers.

Brokerage accounts.

Property filings.

Instant paper trail.

But certain physical gold coins are classified as non-reportable transactions under IRS rules.

No automatic 1099 when qualifying coins are purchased.

No brokerage statement attached.

No banking system required.

And when it’s time to pass them down?

You don’t transfer an account.

You hand them over.

With 2026 estate shifts approaching, families aren’t waiting to see what changes.

They’re repositioning now.

The Quiet Wealth Playbook shows:

Which gold coins qualify How to buy and store correctly How to use a 401(k), IRA, or TSP Why gold hit 26 new highs this year

Three Numbers to Start
$10,000
the cash payment that obliges a dealer to file a federal form, whatever the metal is worth. A wire of any size does not.
25
the number of one-ounce Krugerrands or Maple Leafs that triggers a sale report. American Eagles are exempt at any quantity.
$109,000
the income at which a single filer starts paying the Medicare surcharge, against $218,000 for a couple.

The Reporting Rules on Metal Are Narrower Than Almost Everybody Thinks
Two federal forms cover physical precious metals, they do different jobs, and the difference between them is where most of the confusion lives.
Form 8300 covers the purchase side and only when cash is involved. A dealer who receives more than $10,000 in currency, in one transaction or in related ones within a day, has to file within fifteen days. Cashier’s cheques and money orders with a face value of $10,000 or less count as cash for this purpose, so two $7,500 cheques trigger the form even though neither one crosses the line on its own.
A wire transfer does not. Nor does a personal cheque, a bank draft above $10,000, or a card payment. The form reports how somebody paid rather than what they bought.
What actually triggers a form
Form 1099-B covers the sale side and applies only to specific products in specific quantities. The list is short: twenty-five or more one-ounce Krugerrands, Maple Leafs or Mexican Onzas. Gold bars of a kilo or more, or a hundred-ounce bar. Platinum totalling twenty-five ounces. Silver bars totalling a thousand ounces. Ninety percent silver US coins with a face value of $1,000 or more.
Everything else is outside it. American Gold Eagles and Silver Eagles are exempt at any quantity, as are fractional gold coins and most foreign coins that are not deliverable against a futures contract. Selling twenty Krugerrands generates no form. Selling twenty-five does.
One point deserves stating plainly, because the marketing around this subject rarely does. A dealer form is a reporting obligation on the dealer. It has no bearing on what the owner owes.
Gains on physical metal held more than a year are taxed as collectibles at a maximum federal rate of 28%, against 20% on shares, whether or not any form was filed. And the coins remain part of a taxable estate at their market value on the date of death, in the same way a brokerage account does.
What the rules do offer is a settlement that does not run through an account. A transfer between two people happens by handing something over, and there is no custodian to update, no beneficiary form to supersede a will and no institution to notify. That is a real difference in mechanics, and it sits alongside the tax rather than instead of it.
Forty Thousand Percent Is Nineteen Percent a Year
A different kind of arithmetic runs through every story about the one stock somebody should have bought.
A gain of 40,000% turns $1,000 into $400,000 and reads like a different universe. Spread across the thirty-four years since 1992, it is a compound return of about 19.3% a year.
A four-hundred-fold gain is 19 percent a year
That is roughly double the long-run average for American equities, sustained for three and a half decades without a year that breaks the chain. The number is extraordinary because of its duration, not its size in any single year.
Which also explains why these stories are told backwards. The company that compounds at 19% for thirty-four years is identified afterwards, from a starting field of hundreds that looked similar at the time and did not survive.
The useful question about any early-stage business is not whether the upside could be enormous. It is what the business owns that the competition cannot replicate, and whether that advantage survives the decade it takes to matter.

Where Coffee's Next Growth Story Starts
In 1992, Starbucks went public at a split-adjusted price of approximately $0.27.

Today, its stock trades above $108.

That’s a gain of roughly 40,000%.

Put another way…

That turns $100 into $40,000…

$500 into 200,000 dollars…

And a tiny stake of $1,000 into almost half a million dollars.

But unless you invested in Starbucks back in 1992, that opportunity is already gone.

The bigger question is:

Where could coffee’s next major growth story come from?
Where Coffee's Next Growth Story Starts
The global coffee market is projected to reach approximately $380 billion by 2033. And its next breakout company may not be built around thousands of cafés.

It may begin with the farms…

And that’s the opportunity that could dwarf Starbucks returns.

Click here to see what a $1,000 stake buys today – and why this company believes the next big coffee story is moving from farm to shelf.

Meet Green Coffee Company.

It owns approximately 45 Colombian farms and 10 million coffee trees.

It also holds exclusive third-party rights to Juan Valdez coffee products across U.S. and Canadian retail and institutional channels.

Those products are already reaching Target, Walgreens and thousands of North American retail locations.

And individual investors can now own a stake while the company is still private.

No accreditation required.

The Survivor Pays Single Rates on the Same Money
The third arithmetic problem in this letter arrives with a death certificate, and almost nobody plans for it.
A couple files jointly. When one of them dies, the survivor files jointly for that final year, and then files as a single taxpayer for every year afterwards.
The income often barely moves. The larger Social Security benefit continues, the pension usually continues at a survivor rate, and the required withdrawals from the retirement accounts do not shrink at all. What changes is every threshold the income is measured against.
The same income, half the threshold
The standard deduction halves. Each tax bracket starts and ends at roughly half the joint figure. And the Medicare surcharge, which begins above $218,000 of income for a couple, begins above $109,000 for a single filer.
So a widow with the same household income as the year before can find herself in a higher bracket, paying a surcharge that was not there, with a smaller deduction against it. Planners call it the widow’s penalty, and it is a pure consequence of filing status rather than of anything that happened to the money.
The years when something can be done about it are the ones before it applies. Roth conversions while both spouses are alive move money out of the accounts that will later be taxed at single rates, and they use joint brackets to do it.

A Law That Upends Retirement Planning
A law Congress passed is starting to make its presence felt…
A Law That Upends Retirement Planning
And that’s VERY bad news for retirees.

Even the Wall Street Journal had to admit that the law…

“Upends 20 Years of Retirement Planning and STICKS It to the Middle Class.”

What does that mean for you?

It’s time to find out…

But prepare to be SHOCKED.

Click here to find out how this law will affect you...

Before it has everyone in its crosshairs.

What is Scheduled
Oct
the next Fed meeting. Markets price roughly an even chance of another increase after the first rise since 2023.
3 Nov
the midterm elections.
31 Dec
the close of the tax year for gifts, Roth conversions and required withdrawals.
The conversion deadline and the widow’s penalty belong to the same calculation. A conversion done in December uses this year’s joint brackets, and it sets a Medicare surcharge two years out that will be measured against whichever threshold applies then.

Twenty-Five Coins
25
one-ounce Krugerrands, Maple Leafs or Mexican Onzas in a single sale, which is where a dealer’s reporting duty begins. American Eagles never reach it at any quantity. Neither fact changes the 28% collectibles rate on the gain or the value that lands in the estate.
Forget the hot picks — protect what you’ve already built, and separate what gets reported from what gets taxed. Because the best trade you’ll ever make is the loss you never took.
